Poetry Map Fold Book #1

 

I'm trying to catch up on a few monthly projects from last year for the Handmade Book Club. This is my take on the November book: a poetry map fold book.

Ik ben bezig met het inhalen van een aantal maandelijkse boekbindprojecten bij de Handmade Book Club.

Dit is mijn versie van het boek van afgelopen november: 'a poetry map fold book'.

To avoid ruining the printed poem I want to use for this project I made a few demo's first.

Om te vermijden dat ik het geprinte gedicht dat ik wil gebruiken voor dit boek ga ruïneren maakte ik eerst een aantal proefboekjes.

For the inside pages of today's demo book I used paper from my stash.

Voor de pagina's van het demo boekje van vandaag gebruikte ik papier uit mijn voorraad.

Both hard covers were decorated with handmade paper, at the outside as well as at the inside.

De harde kaften bekleedde ik met handgeschept papier, zowel aan de buitenkant als aan de binnenkant.

I used pages from these 'Dina Wakley Media Collage Collective' books.

Het papier komt uit deze 'Dina Wakley Media Collage Collective' boeken.

An origami folding technique was involved...

 To close the book I added a piece of orange velvet ribbon.

Het boekje kan dichtgeknoopt worden met een oranje fluwelen lint.

Overlapping Blocks #2

 

Today I'm sharing another card I made using the new Overlapping Blocks - Background Stamp by Darkroom Door. I started by making a print using Versamark Ink and heat embossing the print with white embossing powder.

Vandaag toon ik nog een kaartje dat ik maakte met de nieuwe Overlapping Blocks - Background Stamp van Darkroom Door. Begonnen met het maken van een afdruk met Versamark inkt. De afdruk bewerkt met wit embossing poeder.

Next I colored the background using Dina Wakley Gloss Spray. The embossing works as a resist, love how it turned out!

I stamped 2 flowers from the Full Bloom Vol 1 set on watercolor paper and colored the prints with Gloss Spray as well. After cutting out I arranged the flowers on the card. I adhered the colored panel to a square top fold card. On the right I stamped a bunch of birthday wishes using the Sentiment Stamps - Happy Birthday. Finished the card off with a strip of matching ribbon. 

Daarna de achtergrond gekleurd met Dina Wakley Media Gloss Spray. De embossing werkt als een resist, blij met het resultaat! 

Twee bloemen uit de Full Bloom Vol 1 set afgedrukt op aquarelpapier en ingekleurd met dezelfde Gloss Spray. De bloemen uitgeknipt en op de kaart geschikt. Het paneeltje op een vierkante witte kaart gekleefd. Rechts een heleboel verjaardagswensen gestempeld met de Sentiment Stamps - Happy Birthday. De kaart afgewerkt met een stukje bijpassend rozenlint.

Pompon Sheep #3

 

Tackling unfinished projects, another intention of me for 2023.

Last year I made a set of cards and a canvas with sheep made of pompons.

While working on it I made up my mind to create another canvas with a green sheep but it took me until now to finish this canvas.

Half afgewerkte projecten afwerken, nog een voornemen van me voor 2023.

Vorig jaar maakte ik een set kaarten en een canvas met schapen gemaakt van pompons erop.

Toen nam ik me voor om ook nog een canvas te maken met een groen schaap maar pas nu vond ik de tijd om dit af te werken. 

I started by covering the canvas (20 x 20 cm) with tissue paper on which I made gel prints. Next I added text. The text was stamped on tissue paper as well.

Eerst het canvas (20 x 20 cm) vol gekleefd met tissue papier waar ik gel prints op maakte. Daarna text opgeplakt die ik ook eerst stempelde op tissue papier.

The legs of the sheep were painted straight onto the canvas. The head and ears were cut out of mixed media paper and were colored black before adhering to the canvas with 3D tape.

De poten van het schaap rechtstreeks op het canvas geschilderd. De kop en oren uit mixed media papier geknipt, zwart geverfd en met 3D tape op het canvas geplakt.

For the body I used 3 different sizes of pompons and I filled up the gaps in between the pompons with green thread.

Voor het lijfje drie verschillende maten pompons opgeplakt en de ruimte tussen de pompons opgevuld met groen garen.

More Flowers

 

The "Flowers Magic Challenge" by Francisca Nunes came to an end but I'm still busy filling the pages of my junk journal with flowers.

Here I added 2 stamped flowers to an eco printed page. 

De 'Flowers Magic Challenge" is afgelopen maar ik ga nog even door met het vullen van mijn junk journal met bloemen.

Hier kleefde ik twee gestempelde bloemen op een eco print.

I completed the spread by adding marks, a tab, a piece of one of my 'snippet rolls' and a few rub-ons.

Verder nog 'marks', een tabje, een stukje van één van mijn 'snippet rolls' en een aantal rub-ons toegevoegd.

Here I started by making scribbles with a pencil. I randomly stamped with the 'Abstract Stamp - Distressed Diamonds' by Darkroom Door and adhered 5 orange circles and a stamped heart. The circles were punched out of tissue paper that I colored with Dylusions Ink Spray first. I outlined the circles using an orange Distress Crayon and a black Stabilo All pencil.

Hier eerst met een gewoon potlood krabbels gemaakt. Daarna op willekeurige plaatsen gestempeld met de 'Abstract Stamp - Distressed Diamonds' van Darkroom Door. Vijf oranje cirkels opgeplakt en een hart. De cirkels met een pons uit tissue papier gesneden, het tissue papier eerst gekleurd met Dylusions Ink Spray. De cirkels omlijnd met een oranje Distress Crayon en een zwart Stabilo All potlood.

I finished the spread off by adding one of my 'Wonky Bits' flowers.

De spread afgewerkt met een bloem uit mijn 'Wonky Bits' verzameling.

The page on the left is from a Dina Wakley Media Collage Book, not my work!

On the right I drew some simple flowers that I colored with Distress Crayons. The light green handmade paper with a lot of texture was not an easy surface to work on.

De pagina links komt uit een boek met papier van Dina Wakley, niet mijn werk dus!

Rechts tekende ik een aantal simpele bloemen die ik inkleurde met Distress Crayons. Het lichtgroene handgeschept papier met véél textuur was geen makkelijke ondergrond om op te werken.

Accordion Books Challenge #1

 

I made this 8-pocket accordion book for the "Accordion Books Challenge" by Ali  Manning aka vintagepagedesigns.

Ik vouwde dit accordeon boekje met 8 vakken voor de "Accordion Books Challenge" van Ali Manning aka vintagepagedesigns.

I kept the accordion book simple, wanted the tags to be the eye catcher.

Ik hield het boekje zelf simpel, ik wilde dat de labels het middelpunt werden.

I decorated the front cover using stamps by Dina Wakley.

De voorkant versierd me stempels van Dina Wakley.

I folded 8 pockets to hold the tags.

In de 8 vakjes passen 8 labels.

I decorated the inside pages of the book with a border stamp by JOFY.

De pagina's binnenin versierd met een stempel van JOFY.

I dyed white seam binding ribbon with Distress Inks and used that colored ribbon for the tag toppers and the closure.

Ik verfde wit naadlint met Distress Inkt en gebruikte dat voor de sluiting en als decoratie voor de  labels.

I colored the tags with watercolor paint.

De labels kleurde ik met aquarelverf.

I worked on one panel and divided the panel into 8 strips after finishing it off.

I applied this technique in the past on THESE tags as well.

Gewerkt op 1 paneel dat ik achteraf verknipte tot 8 stroken.

Deze manier van werken paste ik ook al toe bij DEZE labels.

I transformed each strip of paper into a tag.

Van elke strook papier maakte ik een label.

The large panel looked very busy but when you look at the tags one by one it seems ok I think.

Het grote paneel leek heel druk maar na het verknippen viel dat toch heel goed mee.

If I would have made each tag separately I would never have reached this effect.

Als ik elk label afzonderlijk had gemaakt, had ik nooit dit effect kunnen bereiken.

A while ago I joined a Facebook Live workshop by Dina Wakley.

In that course she demonstrated how to make a 'Tie Book'.

Een tijdje geleden volgde ik een Facebook Live van Dina Wakley.

Ze demonstreerde hoe je een 'Tie Book' maakt.

Dina started from scratch. She showed a technique on how to color the pages and taught the binding method. I didn't find the time yet to prepare the pages the way she did but I was eager to try the binding. So I dug into my pile of gel prints and made a 'Tie Book' from gel prints.

Dina begon vanaf nul. Ze toonde een techniek om pagina's kleur te geven en legde uit hoe je het boekje moest binden. Ik vond nog geen tijd om pagina's te verven op haar manier maar ik wilde wel graag de binding uitproberen. Dus heb ik mijn voorraad gel prints aangesproken en maakte ik een 'Tie Book' van gel prints.

I've chosen to work with green and blue prints.

The pages are card size.

Gekozen voor prints in groen/blauwe tinten.

De pagina's zijn kaartformaat.

I 'm planning to fill the book with flower prints.

De voorkant versierd met stempels van Dina Wakley.

Het is de bedoeling om het boekje te vullen met bloemenprints.

The binding is located at the very top and bottom of the spine, so the entire spine is free from stitches. Due to the gel prints I ended up with a very colorful spine.

Doordat de pagina's aan beide uiteinden van de rug aan mekaar geknoopt worden blijft de rug vrij van bindwerk. De gel prints zorgen voor een kleurige rug.

I've chosen to round the corners of each page.

Ervoor gekozen om de hoekjes van de pagina's af te ronden.

Because I used rather thin linen bookbinding thread I could make tight knots.

Door met tamelijk dunne linnen draad te werken kon ik strakke knopen maken.

When using ribbon or thicker thread the book becomes less stable, more wobbly.

Hoe dikker het lint of het touwtje waar je mee werkt, hoe 'wiebeliger' het boekje wordt.
