As part of the 'Summer Creative Retreat 2026' I joined the class 'Colorful Watercolor Donuts' with Shannon Layne.

Bij de 'Summer Creative Retreat 2026' nam ik deel aan de online les 'Colorful Watercolor Donuts' met Shannon Layne.

I painted a pink one as well as a chocolate one.

Ik schilderde een roze versie en een chocolade versie.

It was again an exercise in adding shadow and depth.

Het was opnieuw een oefening in het aanbrengen van diepte en schaduw.

I finished both pages off by making splatters with watercolor paint and white acrylic paint.

Beide pagina's afgewerkt met spetters. Ik maakte ze met aquarelverf en met witte acrylverf.

My donuts turned out quite wonky but I learned a lot and it was fun to do.

Niet echt blij met het resultaat maar ik heb veel bijgeleerd en het was leuk om te doen.

Fodder Challenge 2026 #1

 

Fodder Challenge 2026 starts in October but to kick off the event a few lessons already came online.

Fodder Challenge 2026 begint in oktober maar om het event af te trappen staan al een paar lessen online.

Willa Wanders aka Wendy Solganik taught us how to make beautiful backgrounds with watercolor paint on all kinds of paper.

Willa Wanders aka Wendy Solganik leerde ons hoe je mooie achtergronden maakt met aquarelverf op allerlei soorten papier.

She also demonstrated the effect of isopropyl alcohol on watercolor paint.

Ze toonde ons ook het effect van isopropyl alcohol op aquarelverf.

The outcome is never predictable but always beautiful.

Het resultaat is nooit voorspelbaar maar altijd mooi.

The stamps I used on the collage fodder are by PaperArtsy (EEG15-EEG17-EEG22).

De stempels die ik gebruikte op deze 'collage fodder' zijn van PaperArtsy ( EEG 15-EEG17-EEG22).

A great warming up excercise :)

No Glue Slipcase Accordion Book

 

The September book at the Handmade Book Club is a 'No Glue Slipcase Accordion Book'. 

Het thema van het project van deze maand bij de Handmade Book Club is een 'No Glue Slipcase Accordion Book'.

Artist in Residence this month is Shawn Sheehy.

De gastdocent deze maand is Shawn Sheehy.

He taught us how to make a no glue, no thread structure.

Hij leerde ons hoe je een boekje met insteekhoes maakt waar geen lijm of draad aan te pas komt.

Each book holds 6 accordion folded signatures, connected by interlocking tabs and slots.

Elk boekje bevat 6 accordeon gevouwen katernen. De katernen worden aan mekaar  en aan de kaft vastgemaakt met tabs die in mekaar haken.

For the slipcase there was a lot of precision cutting and folding involved.

Bij het maken van de insteekhoes kwam heel wat nauwkeurig knip- en vouwwerk kijken.

Totally my cup of tea :)

Helemaal mijn ding :)

So I made 3 books and slipcases.

Dus maakte ik 3 exemplaren.

I used contrasting colors for the cover and the slipcase.

Voor de kaft en de hoes gebruikte ik contrasterende kleuren.

I folded the signatures from 210 grs mixed media paper.

De katernen maakte ik van mixed media papier van 210 gr.

For the covers and slipcases I used colored cardstock.

Voor de kaften en de insteekhoezen gebruikte ik gekleurd kaartkarton.

It was a fun project.

Het was een heel leuk project.

As part of the 'Summer Creative Retreat 2026' I joined the class 'Embroidery on Watercolors' with Jessica Mack.

Bij de 'Summer Creative Retreat 2026' nam ik deel aan de online les 'Borduren op aquarel' met Jessica Mack.

I started by painting backgrounds with watercolor paint.

Eerst achtergronden geschilderd met aquarelverf.

To embroider these flowers I used stranded thread.

 

Om deze bloemen te borduren gebruikte ik splijtgaren.

First I punched holes. The stems of the flowers were done with a stem stitch.

Eerst gaatjes geprikt. De stelen van de bloemen geborduurd met de steelsteek.

For the petals I used a lazy daisy stitch. The centre was done with French knots. 

Voor de bloemblaadjes gebruikte ik de lussteek en voor het hart Franse knoopjes. 

On this card I embroidered the petals with yarn and glued a pompon in the centre.

Hier de bloemblaadjes geborduurd met wol en in het midden een pompon geplakt.

The wishes were stamped with stamps by Darkroom Door.

Voor de wensen stempels van Darkroom Door gebruikt.

As part of the 'Summer Creative Retreat 2026' I joined the class 'Watercolor Florals With Everyday Objects' with Sushma Hegde.

Bij de 'Summer Creative Retreat 2026' nam ik deel aan de online les 'Watercolor Florals With Everyday Objects' met Sushma Hegde.

To paint the flowers we could use anything but a brush.

Om de bloemen te schilderen mochten we alles gebruiken behalve een penseel.

I used cotton swabs, a skewer, a leave and other stuff from the garden.

Ik gebruikte oorstokjes, een houten saté prikker, een blad, takjes en andere dingen uit de tuin.

Not at all easy to do but I enjoyed the challenge.

Niet gemakkelijk maar ik vond het wel een toffe uitdaging.

As part of the 'Summer Creative Retreat 2026' I joined the class 'Paint the Glow: Loose Watercolor Apple Made Simple' with Ohn Mar Win. 

Bij de 'Summer Creative Retreat 2026' nam ik deel aan de online les 'Paint the Glow: Loose Watercolor Apple Made Simple' met Ohn Mar Win. 

It was all about layering colors, values, light and shadow...

Het draaide allemaal rond laagjes kleur aanbrengen, kleurschakeringen, licht en schaduw...

My well used watercolor sets.

Mijn goed gebruikte aquarelverf doosjes.

Not totally happy with the outcome but it was a fun exercise.

Niet helemaal blij met het resultaat maar het was een hele leuke oefening.

Out of the more than 60 lessons over at the Summer Creative Retreat 2026 I picked a bookbinding lesson :)

Uit de meer dan 60 lessen van de 'Summer Creative Retreat 2026' koos ik een boekbindlesje :)

I made 2 junk journals decorated with pompons.

Ik maakte 2 'junk journals' versierd met pompons.

It were the pompons that caught my eye of course :)

Het waren de pompons die mijn aandacht trokken natuurlijk :)

I glued fabric on the front covers...

Op de kaften plakte ik stof...

...and felt inside.

...en aan de binnenkant vilt.

Did the binding with a simple pamphlet stitch.

De binding werd gedaan met een eenvoudige 'pamphlet' steek.

I filled the books with all kinds of junk paper from my stash.

De boekjes gevuld met allerlei papier uit mijn voorraad.

Summer Creative Retreat 2026 #1

At the beginning of August I joined the online 'Summer Creative Retreat' hosted by The Pigeon Letters.

In de eerste week van augustus nam ik deel aan de online 'Summer Creative Retreat' georganiseerd door The Pigeon Letters.

There were over 60 free workshops to pick from.

Er waren meer dan 60 gratis workshops om uit te kiezen.

The gel printing class 'Stencil Stories: Colorful Tissue Collage Papers' by Birgit Koopsen caught my eye.

Birgit taught us a few techniques on how to print on tissue paper with stencils...

Birgit leerde ons een paar technieken om te printen op tissue papier met stencils...
