Summer Creative Retreat #5

 

As part of the 'Summer Creative Retreat 2026' I joined the class 'Embroidery on Watercolors' with Jessica Mack.

Bij de 'Summer Creative Retreat 2026' nam ik deel aan de online les 'Borduren op aquarel' met Jessica Mack.

I started by painting backgrounds with watercolor paint.

Eerst achtergronden geschilderd met aquarelverf.

To embroider these flowers I used stranded thread.

 

Om deze bloemen te borduren gebruikte ik splijtgaren.

First I punched holes. The stems of the flowers were done with a stem stitch.

Eerst gaatjes geprikt. De stelen van de bloemen geborduurd met de steelsteek.

For the petals I used a lazy daisy stitch. The centre was done with French knots. 

Voor de bloemblaadjes gebruikte ik de lussteek en voor het hart Franse knoopjes. 

On this card I embroidered the petals with yarn and glued a pompon in the centre.

Hier de bloemblaadjes geborduurd met wol en in het midden een pompon geplakt.

The wishes were stamped with stamps by Darkroom Door.

Voor de wensen stempels van Darkroom Door gebruikt.

Hyacinths #1

Made these 2 spring cards using the 'Hyacinth' stamp by Different Colors.

Deze 2 lentekaartjes gemaakt met de 'Hyacint' stempel van Different Colors.

For this background I used the 'Abstract Triangles Background Stamp' by Darkroom Door and Catherine Pooler ink 'Lemongrass'.

After stamping I colored the flower with watercolor paint.

Voor de achtergrond werkte ik met de 'Abstract Triangles' achtergrondstempel van Darkroom Door en Catherine Pooler inkt 'Lemongrass'.

Na het stempelen de bloem ingekleurd met aquarelverf.

Added a matching tab made from a strip of home dyed fabric.

Een bijpassend tabje gemaakt van een reepje zelf geverfde stof.

On this card I used the 'Overlapping Blocks Background Stamp' by Darkroom Door and Distress Oxide ink 'Kitsch Flamingo'.

Voor deze kaart gebruikte ik de 'Overlapping Blocks' achtergrondstempel van Darkroom Door en Distress inkt 'Kitsch Flamingo'.

Colored this background using the same colors as I used on the hyacinth.

Voor deze achtergrond gebruikte ik dezelfde kleuren als deze waarmee ik de hyacint inkleurde.

I finished the cards off by stamping a birthday wish.

De kaarten afgewerkt met een gestempelde verjaardagswens.

On the background of this Easter card I used a gel print.

Easter Cards #2

Two more Easter cards, made with the Easter Bunny stamp by Ludiec.

Hier nog 2 Paaskaartjes, gemaakt met de Paashaas stempel van Ludiec.

For the background of both cards I used a brown paper bag. I crumpled the paper and dry brushed it with white paint.

Voor de achtergrond van beide kaarten gebruikte ik een bruin papieren zakje. Het papier eerst verfrommeld en er witte vegen op gemaakt met witte verf.

After stamping I colored the bunny with watercolor paint.

Na het stempelen de haas gekleurd met aquarelverf.

The checkered pattern was done with a Darkroom Door stamp and Golden Acrylics paint 'Fluorescent Magenta'.

Het hokjes patroon deed ik met een stempel van Darkroom Door en Golden Acrylics verf 'Fluorescent Magenta'.

On this card I adhered strips of patterned paper that I colored with the same fluorescent paint.

I finally added some black and white stamping. Finished the cards off with a button, raffia and cord.

Op deze kaart stroken gedessineerd papier opgeplakt. Dit papier geverfd met dezelfde fluo verf. Nog wit en zwart stempelwerk toegevoegd en de kaarten afgewerkt met een knoop, raffia en koord.

This week I made a few Easter cards. 

On the background of my first card I used a gel print from my stash.

Deze week een aantal kaartjes gemaakt met als thema Pasen. De achtergrond van mijn eerste kaart is een gel print uit mijn voorraad.

After stamping I colored the Easter bunny with watercolor paint.

Na het stempelen kleurde ik de Paashaas met aquarelverf.

I finished the card off by adhering 3 buttons and a piece of paper ribbon.

De kaart afgewerkt door 3 knoopjes en een reep papieren lint op te plakken.

I made 10 Christmas cards using only one stencil pack.

It's a set by Kristina Werner and it contains 6 stencils (see photo below).

 On her blog Kristina demonstrates cards made with those stencils.

For some of the cards I was inspired by Kristina's work.

Ik maakte 10 kerstkaarten met slechts één set stencils.

Het is een set van Kristina Werner en in de set zitten 6 stencils (zie onderste foto).

Op haar blog demonstreert Kristina verschillende kaarten waarbij ze de stencil set gebruikt. Sommige van mijn kaarten zijn geïnspireerd op haar werk.

For the pink backgrounds I used the grid stencil together with Distress Ink 'Kitsch Flamingo'.

De roze achtergrond deed ik met de raster stencil en Distress Inkt 'Kitsch Flamingo'.

Here I heat embossed the small star with gold embossing powder... 

Hier embossing poeder aangebracht op de kleine ster...

...and added a stamped star on top of the biggest star.

...en een gestempelde ster over de grootste ster gekleefd.

I first sponged the tree with Distress Ink, then put a stencil with diagonals on top and sponged again with darker colors.

De boom eerst gekleurd met Distress Inkt. Daarna een stencil met diagonalen over de boom gelegd en hier doorheen gesponsd met donkerder kleuren.

I finished the card off with some ribbon and a button.

De kaart afgewerkt met groen lint en een knoop.

The text stamp is by Darkroom Door.

De tekst stempel is van Darkroom Door.

For the next 2 cards I inked up the back of the text stencil with Distress Ink, sprayed water on top and 'stamped' on watercolor paper.

Bij de 2 volgende kaarten de achterkant van de stencil met tekst beïnkt met Distress Inkt, hier water over verneveld en 'gestempeld' op aquarelpapier.

Because in my opinion the text didn't stand out enough I applied Versamark ink through the stencil and heat embossed the text with white embossing powder.

Ik vond dat de letters er niet genoeg uitsprongen dus Versamark aangebracht doorheen de stencil en de letters met wit embossingpoeder bewerkt.

For the background of the next 3 cards I did some 'stamping' with the diamonds stencil and Distress Ink.

Voor de achtergrond van de volgende 3 kaarten 'gestempeld' met de stencil met kleine diamanten en Distress Inkt.

I sponged paint through the tree stencil and cut the tree out.

The bird was in my stash, I made it years ago using crackle paste.

Verf gesponsd doorheen de stencil met de boom en die dan uitgeknipt.

De vogel heb ik al heel lang, ooit gemaakt met crackle paste.

I colored the tree with Distress Ink and

added text using a Hero Arts stamp.

Deze boom gekleurd met Distress Inkt en er tekst overheen gestempeld met een Hero Arts stempel.

More buttons.

Nog meer knopen.

The trees on both cards and tag were stamped with the 'Pen & Ink Christmas Tree' by Hero Arts.

De kerstbomen op beide kaarten en het label zijn gestempeld met de "Pen & Ink Christmas Tree' van Hero Arts.

It's a stamp I have in my collection for many years but it's still one of my favorites.

Ik heb de stempel al vele jaren maar het blijft één van mijn favorieten.

For the background of the cards I used patterned paper from a Christmas paper pad. I distressed the edges with Distress Ink 'Festive Berries'.

Voor de achtergrond van de kaarten werkte ik met gedessineerd papier uit een kerstblokje. Ik bewerkte de randen met Distress Inkt 'Festive Berries'.

For the deer I used a Tim Holtz Thinlits die set.

De herten zijn gemaakt met een Thinlits stans set van Tim Holtz.

The trees and the deer were colored with watercolor paint.

Zowel de bomen als de herten kleurde ik met aquarelverf.

The tag was made with leftovers from the cards.

The text on the background of the tag was done with a stencil and glass bead gel.

Met de restjes van de kaarten maakte ik dit label. De tekst op de achtergrond van het label deed ik met een stencil en glass bead gel.
