Art Journal Summer School #2

For the first lesson of Art Journal Summer School I had to draw flamingo's and leaves. I'm not good at drawing at all but I did the best I could :)

In les 1 van Art Journal Summer School moest er al meteen getekend worden. Ik ben niet zo'n tekenwonder maar ik heb mijn best gedaan :)

Marieke showed us various mediums to color our drawings. For this spread I've chosen to work with acrylic paint.

Er kwamen verschillende mediums aan bod om de tekeningen in te kleuren. Ik koos voor acrylverf.

To color the background I used diluted acrylic paint.

Voor de achtergrond verdunde acrylverf gebruikt.

I added details with pencils and a white and black fineliner. I made splatters using white paint. 

It took me some time but now I'm happy with this tropical spread.

Details aangebracht met kleurpotloden, witte en zwarte pennetjes. En ook nog een beetje gespetterd met witte verf. Al bij al toch tevreden met deze tropische spread.

Art Journal Summer School #1

This summer I'm taking part in Art Journal Summer School by Marieke Blokland.

 I started by decorating the cover of the journal I will be working in.

This isn't part of the lessons yet, just a warming up :) 

Deze zomer doe ik mee aan Art Journal Summer School van Marieke Blokland.

Nog geen opdracht afgewerkt maar ik versierde wel al de kaft van het journal waar ik in ga werken. Geen lesje dit, gewoon eigen uitvinding :)

Because I couldn't close my Dylusions journal anymore I splitted it in half (after reading stampingmathilda's blogpost). I reinforced the spine of the blank book block and glued it in place again.  

I still have to make a new cover for the part I already filled.

Mijn Dylusions journal werd te dik. Ik kon de kaft niet meer sluiten. Ik heb het boekblok in 2 verdeeld (na het lezen van stampingmathilda's blogpost). 

Voor het bovenste gevulde deel ga ik een nieuw kaftje maken. Het lege boekblok heb ik verstevigd en terug in de kaft geplakt.

I colored the cover with acrylic paint and scribbled into the wet paint with a Dina Wakley tool. I adhered torn pieces of tissue paper randomly. To create the flowers I used a mini mask by PaperArtsy.

De cover geverd met verschillende kleuren acrylverf. Met een Dina Wakley tool gekrabbeld in de nog natte verf. Daarna stukjes tissue papier opgekleefd. De bloemen maakte ik met een mask van PaperArtsy. 

I overstamped the cover with the Grid Texture Stamp by Darkroom Door and added more stamping using small stamps from the Grunge Marks. For the squares I used rub-ons by Jane Davenport.

Over het geheel gestempeld met de Grid Texture Stamp en met verschillende stempels uit de Grunge Marks set, beide van Darkroom Door. De hokjes zijn rub-ons van Jane Davenport.

I won't use the elastic band anymore. I covered it up with a piece of ribbon.

Het elastiek ga ik niet meer gebruiken. Ik plakte er een stukje lint op.

I added white marks randomly with a Sharpie.

Witte 'marks' toegevoegd met een Sharpie.

I scribbled on the flowers with a black fineliner. 

De bloemen bewerkt met een zwarte stift.

Grid & Circles Texture Stamps #1

I made this card for Darkroom Door using 2 brand new Texture Stamps: Grid & Circles.

First I applied shades of grey and white paint with a plastic card. Next I stamped circles randomly with the new Circles Texture Stamp using pink paint. The grid, flower and bold stripes were done with black Archival ink.

Voor Darkroom Door maakte ik dit kaartje met de nieuwe Grid & Circles Texture Stamps.

Eerst verschillende tinten grijze en witte verf opgesmeerd met een plastic kaart.

Daar willekeurig cirkels overheen gestempeld met roze verf. De rasters stempelde ik met zwarte Archival inkt, net als de bloem en de strepen.

  

I stamped dots and circles using small stamps from the Grunge Marks set.

Verder nog grote stippen en cirkels gestempeld, daarvoor gebruikte ik kleine stempels uit de Grunge Marks set.

To finish the card off I added small dots with a paint marker.

The text was done with a sentiment stamp from the new Birthday Sentiment Stamps set.

Met een fushia verfmarker willekeurig nog wat stippen getekend.

De tekst komt uit de nieuwe Birthday Sentiment Stamps set.

Baby Sentiment Stamps #2

These 2 cards were made with the new Baby Sentiment Stamps by Darkroom Door.

Deze 2 kaartjes maakte ik ook met de nieuwe Baby Sentiment Stamps van Darkroom Door.

I created a pattern on the background using small stamps. I inked up the stamps with light-colored pink ink. 

I overstamped that print with the text strip.

Een patroon op de achtergrond gestempeld met lichtroze inkt en een kleine stempel. 

Deze keer de tekststrook in zijn geheel afgedrukt.

I finished both cards off with black thread and a pink rabbit.

Beide kaarten afgewerkt met een zwart touwtje en een roze konijn.

Apples #4

The final card of my 'Apples' series is a scrap card.

The stamped prints on the background are leftovers from previous projects.

Het laatste appelkaartje in de reeks is een restjeskaart.

De gestempelde prints op de achtergrond zijn restjes van oude projecten. 

The apples were made with the shadowpainting technique, years ago. I colored them with ecoline ink. 

While cleaning my workspace I found a box filled with all kinds of flowers. I'm thinking of a flowers series. I'm still hesitating because there is a lot of very old stuff in the box, it would be quite a challenge :)

De appels zijn een overschotje van een shadowpainting project van lang geleden. Ingekleurd met ecoline inkt. 

Ik vond tijdens het opruimen ook nog een bak met bloemetjes. Dat wordt misschien een volgend reeksje. Dat ben ik nog niet helemaal zeker want er zit toch wel veel oude rommel tussen. Zou een hele uitdaging zijn om daar iets moois mee te maken :)
