Notebook in a Tin #2

 

Each month Ali Manning posts a brand new bookbinding project in the Handmade Book Club. This month's book is an open flat notebook in a tin.

Elke maand post Ali Manning een nieuw boekbindproject in de Handmade Book Club. Deze maand leert ze ons hoe je een vlak openvallend notaboekje maakt dat in een blikje past. 

I collected tins for a while so this challenge is right up my alley :)

A long time ago I bought two sets of cards during a trip in the UK. These cards came in the cutest tins, hence I bought them. For today's project I used one of those tins. 

In een ver verleden verzamelde ik blikjes dus deze uitdaging past helemaal in mijn straatje :)

Lang geleden kocht ik twee sets kaarten tijdens een reis in de UK. Deze kaarten zaten in de mooiste blikjes, vandaar dat ik ze kocht natuurlijk. Voor het project van vandaag koos ik één van die blikjes.

At the bottom of the tin, a reminder of what was in it. Unfortunately all the cards are already gone so I had to look for a matching card (in what was leftover in the other tin) to use on the cover of my book.

Op de onderkant van het blikje is een herinnering te vinden aan wat er in zat. Jammer genoeg zijn alle kaarten al lang verstuurd. Ik moest dus zoeken naar een bijpassende kaart in wat over was van de andere set om te gebruiken voor de kaft van mijn boekje.

The binding is a combination of a 'Perfect Binding' and a 'French Link Stitch'.

A 'Perfect Binding' is a binding where only glue is used to hold the signatures together. I used the same binding on these notebooks.

De binding is een combinatie van een 'Perfect Binding' waarbij alleen lijm gebruikt wordt om de katernen bij mekaar te houden en een 'French Link Stitch'. Ik gebruikte deze binding ook voor deze notaboekjes.

After glueing the spine of the text block I adhered the front and back cover. Therefore I simply cut a greeting card in two. The back of the card has a print as well so I used it on the back cover.

Na het lijmen van de rug van de tekstblok bevestigde ik de kaften. Daarvoor sneed ik een wenskaart middendoor. De achterkant van de kaart is ook bedrukt, dus deze kon ook als kaft dienen.

For the 8 signatures I used 300 grs watercolor paper. With my 'Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper' I rounded the corners on the fore edge of the book.

Voor de 8 katernen gebruikte ik aquarelpapier van 300 gr. Met mijn 'Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper' rondde ik de hoekjes aan de voorrand van het boekje af.

The lift out ribbon with the tag was originally in the tin. 

Het lint met het label zat origineel in het blikje, een meevaller.
