Scribble Daisy

Yesterday I made a spread in one of my handmade Art Journals.
I started by applying a layer of gesso to the pages. Next I adhered torn pieces of tissue paper to the spread. I stamped on the tissue paper first using the Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles and the Handwritten Ledgers stamp set. I added violet and white paint using an old credit card. After drying I mixed blue paint with glazing liquid and applied this mixture to both pages with a paint brush. After a few minutes I removed most of the glaze layer with baby wipes.
I stamped numbers and a quote on the painted background with black ink.

As you can see the stamped tissue paper peaks through the painted layers here and there.

I stamped 5 flowers on mixed media paper using the new Eclectic Stamp - Scribble Daisy. The flowers were colored with yellow paint. I added accents with green, turquoise and white paint. After painting the flowers I overstamped the prints again with black ink to restore the details of the stamped prints. I cut stems and leaves out of painted paper, glued everything down and added shadow with a black Stabilo pencil.

The Art Journal Maker Project #2

Last month I took part in "The Art Journal Maker Project", an online course on making art journals. Four talented artists showed four different ways to make an art journal. I made this journal after watching the lesson by Roben-Marie Smith.

I made an accordion folded book. The accordion is sandwiched in between the covers of a vintage book.

The vintage book I've chosen to work with has covers that were decorated with leather and marbled paper.

Five signatures were sewn into the folds of the accordion.

For the signatures I used drawing paper.

Voor de katernen gebruikte ik tekenpapier.

First I colored the large sheets of drawing paper using PaperArtsy Infusions.
I looked for colors that match the colors of the cover.

I sprinkled a few Infusions granules randomly on the surface (I used 3 colors on one large sheet of drawing paper) and sprayed water on top. The granules react with the water and the magic starts to happen :)

For the book closure I used a torn strip of pink fabric.
In a bonus lesson Roben-Marie demonstrated how to decorate a clamp using leftover fabric, ribbon and a few stitches.

Dotted Circles #3

On this card I used two new Darkroom Door stamps: the Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles  and the Handwritten Ledgers stamp set.

I started by making a print with the Handwritten Ledgers stamp on a kraft card using white paint. I aded some extra white paint using a blending tool to soften the brown color. I stamped circles to the left side of the card with the Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles using red paint.

I stamped a flower from the Fine Flowers Vol 2 set on watercolor paper and colored the flower with watercolor paint.
To finish the card off I added a torn strip of white fabric on which I made a few stitches by hand with embroidery thread.

The Art Journal Maker Project #1

Last week I took part in "The Art Journal Maker Project", an online course on making art journals. Four talented artists showed four different ways to make an art journal.
I made this journal after watching the lesson by 'raspberrybluesky'.

I had this vintage Dutch children's book about a duck called Daan in my stash for ages and could finally put it to good use :)
I removed the text block and added a few layers of gesso to the worn out cover.

The dry embossed image of the duck was already on the cover. I embellished it using some watercolor paint, handmade paper and flower soft.
For the closure I used fabric leftovers from my stash and a fabric label by Tim Holtz on which I embroidered the word 'create'. Thanks to Michelle from 'raspberrybluesky' for the inspiration on this!

The cover holds 2 removable signatures.

The inside covers of my vintage book looked very bad so I decided to glue a piece of handmade paper to the inside covers and spine to decorate and reinforce it at the same time.

For the signatures I used all kinds of paper from my stash: gel prints, packaging paper, eco prints, vintage ledger paper, patterned paper, kraft tags, painted paper, images from a Flow magazine...

I've chosen a 5-hole pamphlet stitch for the binding.

Michelle makes the most awesome 'collages' using tiny bits of paper and fabric to decorate her books...very inspiring!

Dotted Circles #2

Recently I played with the new Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles on my gel printing plate. I worked with a limited color palette of white and red paint and made patterns into the paint using the Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles.

For this card I cut a background out of one of the gel prints. At the bottom of the card I adhered a strip of recycled packaging paper. The cupcake was stamped with light gray ink and colored with watercolor paint. I adhered the cupcake to the card using 3D tape and added a red pompon. I wrapped black and white bakers twine around the card and stamped a wish in the upper right corner.
