Wrapped Journal #5

Last week I again made a wrapped journal. As on this journal I used modeling paste on the cover.

Opnieuw een Wrapped Journal gemaakt. Net als bij deze versie structuurpasta aangebracht op de kaft.

I've die cut the cover out of 300grs watercolor paper using the Sizzix 'Wrapped Journal' die by Eileen Hull. A quick and easy way to cut a cover without measuring. 

De kaft gesneden uit 300grs aquarelpapier met behulp van de Sizzix 'Wrapped Journal' stans van Eileen Hull. Een snelle manier om een kaft te snijden zonder meten. 

To create the pattern I applied modeling paste through the Small Stencil - Circles by Darkroom Door.

Om het patroon te maken bracht ik structuurpasta aan doorheen de Small Stencil - Circles van Darkroom Door.

After drying I painted the cover with lime paint. Next I added 2 layers of glaze. 

I mixed Golden Fluid Acrylics Teal with Golden Glazing Liquid and applied a layer of that mixture on top of the paint. After waiting a few minutes I wiped away most of the glaze using baby wipes. I repeated that step with white paint. I stamped randomly using Archival Ink Mermaid Lagoon.

Na het drogen de kaft geverfd met groene verf. Vervolgens 2 glaze lagen over de kaft geborsteld. Daarvoor eerst Golden Fluid Acrylics Teal gemengd met Golden Glazing Liquid. Dit over het verfwerk aangebracht met een platte borstel. Even gewacht en het meeste weer weggeveegd met babydoekjes. Deze stap nog een keer herhaald met witte verf. Tenslotte hier en daar nog wat gestempeld met Archival Inkt Mermaid Lagoon.

I've woven 4 pieces of pink elastic cord through the holes and made knots at the outside.

Ik schoof 4 stukken roze elastiek door de gaten en maakte aan de buitenkant telkens een knoopje bovenaan en onderaan.

For the inserts I've cut 20 pages out of mixed media paper, size 19,5 x 11 cm. I folded each page in half and nested 5 pages into each other to make 4 signatures.

Voor de katernen 20 pagina's gesneden uit mixed media papier. De pagina's in 2 gevouwen en per 5 in mekaar geschoven om zo 4 katernen te maken.

I painted the inside of the cover with lime paint.

 De binnenkant van de kaft verfde ik egaal groen.

This card is based on a tag I made for the May issue of Craft Stamper.

Een kaart gemaakt gebaseerd op een label wat ik maakte voor de de mei editie van Craft Stamper.

I started with a gel print and added background stamping and stenciling on top.

Coptic Binding

Here's another hand bound book I made.

Opnieuw een boek gebonden.

A rather large one, it measures 32 x 22,5 cm.

Groot formaat deze keer: 32 x 22,5 cm.

To bind the book I've chosen a coptic stitch.

Een koptische binding gekozen om de pagina's en de kaften aan mekaar vast te maken.

 The more accurately the holes are punched in the signatures, the better the stitches will look like on the spine. Working precisely is a must :)

Hoe nauwkeuriger de gaten geprikt zijn in de katernen, hoe mooier de steken vallen op de rug. Precies werken is dus de boodschap bij deze methode :)

This binding allows the pages to lay flat when the book is open. This is a big advantage if you want to draw, paint or write in the book.

Het voordeel van een koptische binding is dat de pagina's mooi vlak liggen als het boek open is. Ideaal dus om in te tekenen, te schrijven of te schilderen. 

I decorated the front cover with a postcard I once bought while visiting France.

I've cut a frame out of cardboard, decorated the frame with handmade paper and made stitches as well.

De voorkant versierd met een postkaartje dat ik ooit in Frankrijk kocht. 

Een frame gesneden uit karton, beplakt met handgeschept papier en versierd met steken.

The paper I used for the front and back cover is by Lamali. It's handmade paper made in Nepal.

De platten bekleed met Lamali papier. Dat is handgeschept papier afkomstig uit Nepal.

Leporello

Yesterday PaperArtsy released new JOFY stamps. On this occasion I have a support blogpost over on the PaperArtsy blog tonight. 

I made a leporello using some of the new JOFY stamps.

Er zijn weer nieuwe JOFY stempels uit bij PaperArtsy. Vanavond ben ik aan de beurt op hun blog met een support post voor deze nieuwe release.

Ik maakte voor deze gelegenheid een leporello.

I worked with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics. Lots of beautiful colors to choose from!

Ik werkte met Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics. Zoveel mooie kleuren om uit te kiezen!

I started by applying messy stripes on the background using a flat brush. Next I added stenciling (dots and squares).

Op de achtergrond eerst vage strepen aangebracht met een platte borstel. Daarna stencilwerk aangebracht (stippen en vierkanten).

Did some black stamping on the background as well.

Zwart stempelwerk toegevoegd.

Love these large flower stamps. You can use them on cards as well as in your art journal.

De grote bloemen zijn multi inzetbaar, zowel op kaarten als in art journals.

A quick and easy construction, that's what I like.

Voor dit boekje hoef je alleen maar te vouwen, eenvoudiger kan niet.

I used a piece of ribbon that was in my stash for ages as a closure.

Een stuk roosjeslint dat al jaren in de lade ligt gebruikt als sluiting.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn is a 12 year old boy who loves clean and simple.

I made a black and white card for him and personalized the card by adding his name. I die cut the letters out of black and white paper. For each letter I glued 5 layers on top of each other. I started with a black letter and added 4 white ones on top.

Brooklyn is 12 en houdt niet zo van frutsels. 

Ik hield het kaartje dus strak en zwart/wit maar ik wilde wel iets voor hem persoonlijk maken dus kwam zijn naam erop te staan. De letters elk 4 keer uit wit papier en 1 keer uit zwart papier gestanst en op mekaar geplakt. Het laagje zwart kwam onderaan te zitten.
