A while ago I joined 'The Art Journal Maker Project' on Roben-Marie Studio.

Een hele tijd geleden nam ik deel aan 'The Art Journal Maker Project' bij Roben-Marie Studio.

For this junk journal I followed the 'Pixie Journal' tutorial by Sara Strandquist.

Voor dit 'junk journal' liet ik me inspireren door de 'Pixie Journal' workshop van Sara Strandquist.

I painted and decorated 8 signature wrappers.

Ik verfde en decoreerde omslagen voor 8 katernen.

Had to paint a lot of fabric as well.

Ik moest ook heel wat stof verven.

I attached fabric to the inside of the signature wrappers by making lots of machine stitches.

The painted fabric strips were stitched on as well.

Stof aangebracht aan de binnenkant van de omslagen en alles vastgemaakt met heel veel naaimachine stiksels.

De geverfde stroken stof werden ook opgestikt.

I folded signatures from all kinds of junk paper: gel prints, advertising leaflets, magazine paper, ledger paper, paper form a map book...

Katernen gevouwen van allerlei papier 'afval': gel prints, reclame folders, papier uit een atlas en uit tijdschriften...

On each signature wrapper I made lots of marks and doodles.

Op elke omslag heel veel 'marks' en 'doodles' getekend.

I'm very happy with my casual, chunky journal :)

Ik ben heel blij met mijn nonchalante, lijvige boek :)

Punch Needle Project

 

I recently finished another punch needle project.

Onlangs werkte ik opnieuw een punch needle project af.

Pattern and yarn are by RICO design.

Het patroon en de wol is van RICO design.

I combined punch needling with embroidery stitches such as French knots.

Ik combineerde punch needling met borduursteken, meerbepaald het Frans knoopje.

I used blue monks cloth to work on instead of the usual cream colored one.

Ik werkte op blauwe grof geweven borduurstof in plaats van op de meer gangbare ecru kleurige.

A nice quick and easy project.

Leuk om te doen en snel klaar.

Drum Leaf Binding

 

I'm trying to catch up on a few projects from last year at the Handmade Book Club. The October book was a 'Drum Leaf Binding'.

Ik probeer een aantal projecten van vorig jaar in te halen bij de Handmade Book Club. Het boek van de maand oktober was een 'Drum Leaf Binding'.

The 'Drum Leaf Binding' has a flexible structure. The book opens flat. There is no sewing involved.

De 'Drum Leaf Binding' heeft een flexibele structuur. Het boek kan mooi vlak openliggen. Er kwam ook geen naaiwerk aan te pas.

The covers were decorated with handmade paper. The minimal glueing created a nice pillow case effect.

De kaften werden bekleed met handgeschept papier. Alleen op de randen lijm aangebracht, dat zorgt voor licht gewatteerd effect.

On the spine I used book cloth.

Op de rug bookbindlinnen gebruikt.

On each book I added a bookmark.

Elk boek kreeg ook een bladwijzer.

The breakaway spine provides a unique hollow channel effect.

De rug van de kaft is los en gaat bij het openen van het boek weg van het boekblok. Dit zorgt voor een soort holle tunnel.

For the sections I used watercolor paper. For the matching endpapers I used handmade paper.

Voor de katernen werkte ik met aquarelpapier. Voor de schutbladen koos ik bijpassend handgeschept papier.

Valentine Palooza

Recently I took part in the 'Valentine Palooza' weekend workshop at the Handmade Book Club.

Onlangs nam ik deel aan de 'Valentine Palooza' weekend workshop bij de Handmade Book Club.

 

We learned to make a soft cover book with a long stitch binding.

 leerden een boek maken met een zachte kaft en een langsteek binding.

 

For the spine stiffener I used a strip of leather. Did the sewing with pink waxed linen thread.

Voor de versteviging op de rug koos ik voor een strook leder. Ik naaide met roze gewaxte linnen draad.

For the cover I used cotton that I backed with blue upholstery fabric. Did the backing with heat 'n bond.

Voor de kaft werkte ik met katoen dat ik verstevigde met blauwe meubelstof. De twee lagen aan mekaar vast gemaakt met heat 'n bond. 

 For the pages I worked with 200 grs drawing paper.

Voor de pagina's gewerkt met tekenpapier van 200 gr.

We had the choice between a book with 7 or 11 signatures.

I've chosen to make the 11 signatures book. Liked the heart pattern more :)

We konden kiezen uit een boek met 7 of met 11 katernen. Ik koos ervoor om het boek te maken met 11 katernen. Ik vond de hartvorm van dit boek mooier :)

Circular Book

 

Each month there's a new bookbinding project in the Handmade Book Club. This month it's a circular book with radial hinges. 

Elke maand verschijnt er een nieuw boekbindproject in de Handmade Book Club. Deze maand is het een cirkelvormig boekje met scharnieren die in alle richtingen kunnen draaien.

This month Kit Davey is the 'artist in residence'. 

She demonstrates how to make this book.

Deze maand is Kit Davey de 'artist in residence'. 

Zij leert ons hoe je dit boekje maakt.

For this project I used scrapbook paper from my stash and a set of birds that came with an old FLOW magazine.

Ik werkte met scrapbook papier uit mijn voorraad en een set vogels die ik ooit bij een FLOW magazine kreeg.

The hinges are hidden behind the small circles.

Het scharnier systeem zit weggestopt onder de kleine cirkels.

I also made a cute pocket that holds the circular book.

Bij het boekje hoort ook een leuke hoes.

It fits in one half...

Het boekje past in 1 helft...

and disappears in the other half.

...en verdwijnt dan in de ander helft.

This book was quick and easy to make, no sewing involved. 

I have tons of paper in my stash so it's possible I'll make another one :) 

Dit boekje was snel gemaakt, er komt geen naaiwerk aan te pas. 

Ik heb nog heel veel papier in mijn voorraad dus misschien volgt er nog wel ééntje :)

Crochet Blanket

 

I started this project back in 2020, during covid. Finally finished the blanket last month.

Ik begon dit projectje in 2020, tijdens de covid periode. Eindelijk het deken afgewerkt vorige maand.

I used a different color on each row. Luckily I didn't have to tuck in the loose threads :)

Elke rij is in een andere kleur gehaakt. Gelukkig hoefde ik geen draden in te stoppen :)

I bought the yarn and pattern at Echtstudio.

Ik kocht de wol en het patroon bij Echtstudio. 

I didn't follow the color scheme exactly, made a few different color combinations.

Ik volgde het kleurenschema niet precies, ik maakte zelf een aantal kleurencombinaties.

A lot of leftovers... should think about another colorful project perhaps.

Nog veel wol over...misschien moet ik nog een kleurrijk projectje bedenken.

Hardcover Long Stitch Portfolio

 

Each month Ali Manning posts a new bookbinding project in the Handmade Book Club. This month it's a hardcover long stitch portfolio.

Elke maand verschijnt er een nieuw boekbindproject in de Handmade Book Club. Deze maand is het een 'long stitch' portfolio met harde kaft.

I decorated the cover with red book cloth and Japanese paper from Adeline Klam's paper store.

Ik bekleedde de kaft met rood boekbindlinnen en gebloemd Japans papier dat ik kocht in de papierwinkel van Adeline Klam.

The long stitches were done with 1 mm elastic cord.

De steken op de rug werden gemaakt met elastiek van 1 mm dik.

My book has 5 removable sections. The elastics hold them in place.

Mijn boek heeft 5 katernen die kunnen uitgenomen worden. Ze worden op hun plaats gehouden door de elastische koord.

A travel friendly book!

Ideaal om mee te nemen op reis.

The inside covers were decorated with green handmade paper.

De binnenkant van de kaften werd bekleed met groen handgeschept papier.

For the sections I used grey chipboard by Silhouette.

Voor de katernen gebruikte ik grijs chipboard van Silhouette.

Poetry Map Fold Book #3

 

I'm trying to catch up on a few monthly projects from last year for the Handmade Book Club. This is my take on the November book: a poetry map fold book.

Ik ben bezig met het inhalen van een aantal maandelijkse boekbindprojecten bij de Handmade Book Club.

Dit is mijn versie van het boek van afgelopen november: 'a poetry map fold book'.

After making 2 demo's I was confident enough to cut up and fold the printed version of a beautiful poem by Elisabeth Lucie Baeten.

Na het maken van 2 demo's was ik dapper genoeg om een geprinte versie van een heel mooi gedicht van Elisabeth Lucie Baeten 'kapot' te snijden en te vouwen.

The only printed version I had in my possession by the way :)

De engine print die ik had trouwens :)

It's a poem she wrote last year on the occasion of the 505-Concerts for Humanity that took place in Antwerp.

Het is een gedicht die ze vorig jaar schreef ter gelegenheid van de 505- Concerten voor de Menselijkheid die plaats vonden in Antwerpen. 

The poem is in Dutch and asks for more kindness, love and humanity.

Het gedicht roept op tot meer vriendelijkheid, liefde en menselijkheid.

Until now the poem was on the wall in my workspace. Happy to have it in a book now!

Tot nu plakte het gedicht aan de muur in mijn werkkamer. Blij dat het nu vereeuwigd is in een boekje.
