Punch Needle Project

 

I recently finished another punch needle project.

Onlangs werkte ik opnieuw een punch needle project af.

Pattern and yarn are by RICO design.

Het patroon en de wol is van RICO design.

I combined punch needling with embroidery stitches such as French knots.

Ik combineerde punch needling met borduursteken, meerbepaald het Frans knoopje.

I used blue monks cloth to work on instead of the usual cream colored one.

Ik werkte op blauwe grof geweven borduurstof in plaats van op de meer gangbare ecru kleurige.

A nice quick and easy project.

Leuk om te doen en snel klaar.

Crochet Blanket

 

I started this project back in 2020, during covid. Finally finished the blanket last month.

Ik begon dit projectje in 2020, tijdens de covid periode. Eindelijk het deken afgewerkt vorige maand.

I used a different color on each row. Luckily I didn't have to tuck in the loose threads :)

Elke rij is in een andere kleur gehaakt. Gelukkig hoefde ik geen draden in te stoppen :)

I bought the yarn and pattern at Echtstudio.

Ik kocht de wol en het patroon bij Echtstudio. 

I didn't follow the color scheme exactly, made a few different color combinations.

Ik volgde het kleurenschema niet precies, ik maakte zelf een aantal kleurencombinaties.

A lot of leftovers... should think about another colorful project perhaps.

Nog veel wol over...misschien moet ik nog een kleurrijk projectje bedenken.

Weaving

 

New at the Handmade Book Club is the Uplevel Challenge. It's an extra monthly challenge that invites members to test their bookbinding skills by re-working a project from the Handmade Book Club archives. Last month's assignment: Pick a binding from the archives and create a book that has some kind of weaving on it.

Nieuw bij de 'Handmade Book Club' is de 'Uplevel Challenge'.

Dit is een maandelijkse extra uitdaging waarbij de leden uitgenodigd worden om hun vaardigheden te testen door een boek uit het archief te herwerken. Opdracht van deze maand: kies een binding uit het archief en maak een boek waar iets van weefwerk op te zien is.

I used a small loom and fluffy yarn, mostly leftovers from previous punch needle projects. 

Ik ging aan de slag met een heel eenvoudig weefraam en overschotjes pluizige wol van mijn vroegere 'punch needle' projecten.

I managed to weave an entire cover. The chunky wool together with the dense weaving provided a sturdy cover.

Ik wilde graag een kaft weven. De dikke wol samen met het dichte weefwerk zorgden voor een mooi stevig kaftje.

The book has 2 signatures, made of cream colored handmade paper.

Het boekje kreeg 2 katernen van crèmekleurig handgeschept papier.

For the binding I picked a 'ZigZag' binding from the archives.

I made a book with this binding before. On that book with a leather cover the zigzag stitches on the spine are far more even than they are on this book. Unfortunately you can't punch holes in a woven cover, before sewing. So I had to figure out how to overcome that problem. But of course that's the purpose of this Uplevel Challenge :)

Voor dit boekje koos ik een ZigZag binding uit het archief.

Ik maakte al eerder een boekje met deze binding. Bij dat lederen boekje zijn de steken veel gelijkmatiger dan bij dit boekje. In een kaftje van weefwerk kan je namelijk geen gaten ponsen alvorens te naaien. Ik moest dus eerst even uitvissen hoe ik dat zou oplossen. Maar laat dat nu net de bedoeling zijn van deze 'Uplevel Challenge' :)

I only have a small loom but to my surprise I was able to make a book that measures 10 x 17 cm.

Ondanks het kleine weefraam kon ik toch een boekje van 10 op 17 cm maken.

I made knots in the warp yarn and added wooden beads.

De kettingdraden bijeen geknoopt en versierd met houten kralen. 

Latch Hook Rug

I finally finished this latch hooking project.

Dit projectje eindelijk eens afgewerkt.

Last year I bought this kit at "We Are Knitters".

With the most awesome wool yarn I made a small latch hook rug. All the materials needed were in the kit: a canvas, a latch hook, 6 colors of wool yarn, a needle, the pattern and a written tutorial.

Vorig jaar kocht ik dit pakket bij "We Are Knitters".

Met super zachte wol maakte ik een klein tapijtje/kleedje. Alle benodigde materialen zaten in het pakket: een canvas, een tapijthaak, 6 kleuren wol, een naald, het patroon met werkbeschrijving.

Latch hooking is not difficult at all, it only takes some time.

Tapijtknopen is helemaal niet moeilijk, wel een geduldwerkje.

It looks nice as an extra cushion in a chair or on a bench, lots of possibilities.

Staat mooi als extra zitting in een stoel of op een bankje, veel mogelijkheden.

Weaving: Little Cloud

 

For the first time in my life I finished a weaving project.

Something simple to start with :)

Ik heb me voor de eerste keer aan een weefwerkje gewaagd. 

Iets heel simpels om mee te beginnen :)

Ik kocht de mooie wol en de andere benodigdheden bij Studio Versie.

I've woven the cloud using cream colored Merino Wool Roving.

For the rain I attached strings of yarn in 5 different colors.

Voor de wolk weefde ik met crèmekleurige Merino Lontwol.

Voor de regen 5 verschillende kleuren draad geknoopt. 

After the weaving was done I attached the cloud to a wooden stick.

Na het weven de wolk aan een houten stokje vastgemaakt.

Last week I finished another punch needle project.

Afgelopen week maakte ik dit punch needle project.

Ik kocht de mooie wol en de andere benodigdheden bij Studio Versie.

It only takes a few hours to finish a project like this, that's what I love about it :)

Zo'n projectje is klaar op een paar uur, dat vind ik het leuke eraan :)

Abstract Stamp - Faded Circles #1

 

I made this square card featuring the new Abstract Stamp - Faded Circles by Darkroom Door.

Er kwam nog een leuke nieuwe stempel uit bij Darkroom Door, de 'Abstract Stamp - Faded Circles'. Ik maakte er deze vierkante kaart mee.

I made a print on the left side of the card using Archival Ink 'Carnation Red'.

De stempel afgedrukt op de linkerkant van de kaart met Archival Inkt 'Carnation Red'. 

At the bottom of the card I added a piece of weaving.

I started by poking 2 rows of holes at a distance of 2 cm. The distance in between the holes is 0,5 cm. I made vertical stitches using a needle and red thread. Next I've woven cream colored yarn through the red stitches. 

I started each row with a new piece of yarn.

Onderaan de kaart wilde ik graag een weefwerkje maken. Daarvoor prikte ik eerst 2 rijen gaatjes in de kaart. Tussen de gaatjes is de afstand 0,5 cm, tussen de rijen 2 cm. Ik maakte verticale steken met een naald en rood garen en weefde er daarna crèmekleurige breiwol doorheen.

De uiteinden telkens afgeknipt en los laten hangen.

The long needle came in handy. 

Een weefnaald kwam goed van pas hier. 

To create the flowers I used a variety of circles. For each flower I punched a circle out of paper, one out of vintage book text and 3 out of tissue paper. The vintage book text was gesso-ed first and overstamped with the smallest flower stamp from the new 'Scribble Flowers' stamp set.

I finished each flower off with a paper stem and I glued a plastic flower in the centre.

De bloemen zijn opgebouwd uit verschillende cirkels. Per bloem kleefde ik een papieren cirkel, een cirkel geponst uit boektekst en 3 cirkels van tissue papier op mekaar. De boektekst kreeg een laagje gesso en werd bestempeld met de kleinste bloem uit de nieuwe 'Scribble Flowers' stempelset.

Elke bloem afgewerkt met een papieren steel en een beige bloemetje in het hart geplakt.

I spotted a cute heart on Instagram at seesarastitch. 

Sara used thread ends and tails from the stitched projects she did with her sewing machine. I worked with yarn.

Sara maakte het van eindjes naaigaren. Ik gebruikte breiwol in 2 kleuren.

Pompon Bouquet

Something totally different in between....I made a fun project using up my scraps of yarn.

Iets helemaal anders tussendoor....Ik maakte een leuk projectje met restjes wol.

I made 5 pompons and glued each pompon on a wooded skewer to create a 'flower bouquet'.

Vijf kleurtjes gekozen, vijf pompons gemaakt en deze op houten stokjes gelijmd om er een boeket mee te maken.

I attached a tag to the vase.

Het vaasje versierd met een bestempeld label.

I made fluffy trees like this for the first time in 2013 but I still love making them. 

To create this card I used white yarn and a gel print from my stash.

Ik maakte ze in 2013 voor het eerst maar ik blijf ze graag maken, deze kerstboompjes van wol.

Voor dit kaartje witte wol gebruikt en een gel print uit mijn voorraad.

The pattern on this card was done with a stencil. Because I used very thin yarn the cards fit in an envelope easily and can be send through the mail.

Hier deed ik de achtergrond met een stencil. Hele dunne wol gebruikt zodat de kaart nog makkelijk in een enveloppe kan en via de post verstuurd kan worden.
