The Art Journal Maker Project #1

Last week I took part in "The Art Journal Maker Project", an online course on making art journals. Four talented artists showed four different ways to make an art journal. 

I made this journal after watching the lesson by 'raspberrybluesky'. 

Vorige week nam ik deel aan de online cursus "The Art Journal Maker Project".  Vier heel getalenteerde dames toonden elk een manier om een art journal te maken met heel simpele materialen.

Dit boekje maakte ik na het bekijken van het lesje van 'raspberrybluesky'.

I had this vintage Dutch children's book about a duck called Daan in my stash for ages and could finally put it to good use :)

I removed the text block and added a few layers of gesso to the worn out cover.

Het oude kinderboekje 'Daan de eend' heb ik al heel lang. Eindelijk kon ik het gebruiken :)

Het tekstblok verwijderd en de nogal versleten kaft een paar laagjes gesso gegeven.

The dry embossed image of the duck was already on the cover. I embellished it using some watercolor paint, handmade paper and flower soft.

For the closure I used fabric leftovers from my stash and a fabric label by Tim Holtz on which I embroidered the word 'create'. Thanks to Michelle from 'raspberrybluesky' for the inspiration on this!

Er stond een reliëfdruk van een eend op de kaft. De afbeelding iets meer zichtbaar gemaakt met aquarelverf, een stukje handgeschept papier en flower soft. 

Voor de sluiting gebruikte ik stof uit mijn voorraad en een stoffen label van Tim Holtz waar ik het woord 'create' op borduurde.Med dank aan Michelle van 'raspberrybluesky' voor de inspiratie!

The cover holds 2 removable signatures.

Ik maakte 2 losse katernen die passen in de kaft.

The inside covers of my vintage book looked very bad so I decided to glue a piece of handmade paper to the inside covers and spine to decorate and reinforce it at the same time.

De binnenkant van de kaft zag er niet uit dus ik koos ervoor om daar handgeschept papier op te plakken. Dit zorgt ook tegelijk voor meer stevigheid van zowel de kaft als de rug. 

For the signatures I used all kinds of paper from my stash: gel prints, packaging paper, eco prints, vintage ledger paper, patterned paper, kraft tags, painted paper, images from a Flow magazine...

Voor de katernen gebruikte ik allerlei papier: gel prints, verpakkingsmateriaal, eco prints, vintage papier, gedessineerd papier, kraft labels, geverfd papier, prenten uit een oude Flow...

I've chosen a 5-hole pamphlet stitch for the binding.

Voor de binding koos ik een "5-hole pamphlet stitch". 

Michelle makes the most awesome 'collages' using tiny bits of paper and fabric to decorate her books...very inspiring!

Om haar boeken te decoreren maakt Michelle de mooiste 'collages' met restjes papier en stof...heel inspirerend!

The Art Journal Maker Project

Dotted Circles #2

 

Recently I played with the new Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles on my gel printing plate. I worked with a limited color palette of white and red paint and made patterns into the paint using the Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles.

Onlangs geëxperimenteerd met de nieuwe Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles op de gel printing plate.

Ik werkte alleen met rode en witte verf en maakte een patroon in de verf met de Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles. 

For this card I cut a background out of one of the gel prints. At the bottom of the card I adhered a strip of recycled packaging paper. The cupcake was stamped with light gray ink and colored with watercolor paint. I adhered the cupcake to the card using 3D tape and added a red pompon. I wrapped black and white bakers twine around the card and stamped a wish in the upper right corner. 

Voor deze kaart een achtergrond gesneden uit één van de gel prints. Onderaan een reep papier uit een beschuitrol opgekleefd. De cupcake werd gestempeld met lichtgrijze inkt en ingekleurd met aquarelverf. 3D tape gebruikt om de cupcake aan de kaart te bevestigen. De cupcake afgewerkt met een rode pompon.

Tenslotte nog een stukje zwart/wit koord rond de kaart gewikkeld en een tekst gestempeld.

I made this card using up leftovers from this card. I only used a part of the Open Circles - Background Stamp and didn't color the embossed print. Love the tone on tone effect of the print.

Met de restjes die ik overhield na het maken van de kaart uit de vorige post maakte ik deze vierkante kaart. Ik gebruikte slechts een deeltje van de Open Circles - Background Stamp en koos ervoor om de print te embossen maar niet in te kleuren. Het toon op toon effect vind ik wel mooi.

Today I'm sharing another card I made using the new Overlapping Blocks - Background Stamp by Darkroom Door. I started by making a print using Versamark Ink and heat embossing the print with white embossing powder.

Vandaag toon ik nog een kaartje dat ik maakte met de nieuwe Overlapping Blocks - Background Stamp van Darkroom Door. Begonnen met het maken van een afdruk met Versamark inkt. De afdruk bewerkt met wit embossing poeder.

Next I colored the background using Dina Wakley Gloss Spray. The embossing works as a resist, love how it turned out!

I stamped 2 flowers from the Full Bloom Vol 1 set on watercolor paper and colored the prints with Gloss Spray as well. After cutting out I arranged the flowers on the card. I adhered the colored panel to a square top fold card. On the right I stamped a bunch of birthday wishes using the Sentiment Stamps - Happy Birthday. Finished the card off with a strip of matching ribbon. 

Daarna de achtergrond gekleurd met Dina Wakley Media Gloss Spray. De embossing werkt als een resist, blij met het resultaat! 

Twee bloemen uit de Full Bloom Vol 1 set afgedrukt op aquarelpapier en ingekleurd met dezelfde Gloss Spray. De bloemen uitgeknipt en op de kaart geschikt. Het paneeltje op een vierkante witte kaart gekleefd. Rechts een heleboel verjaardagswensen gestempeld met de Sentiment Stamps - Happy Birthday. De kaart afgewerkt met een stukje bijpassend rozenlint.

Darkroom Door released 4 new Abstract Stamps as well. These stamps have a great size, they cover the entire height of a top fold card. 

On this festive card I worked with the new Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles.

Darkroom Door bracht ook 4 nieuwe Abstract Stempels uit. Dit zijn lange smalle stempels, groot genoeg om de totale hoogte van een rechtopstaande kaart te bedekken. 

Op dit feestelijk kaartje werkte ik met de nieuwe Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles.

I started by sponging a thin layer of white paint onto a kraft card panel. 

 I made a print on top with the Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles using red paint.

Gestart met het sponzen van een dunne laag witte verf op een kraft kaart. 

Rode verf gebruikt om een print te maken met de Abstract Stamp - Dotted Circles.

I stamped two balloons from the Party Balloons stamp set straight onto the card. I stamped the same balloons once more on a red gel print, cut them out and adhered them to the card. Used 3D tape to attach the smallest balloon.

Twee ballonnen uit de Party Balloons set rechtstreeks op de kaart afgedrukt. De ballonnen nog een keer afgedrukt op een rode gel print, uitgeknipt en opgeplakt bovenop de prints op de kaart. Voor de kleinste ballon 3D tape gebruikt. 

I stamped the legs of the bird straight onto the card. The body was stamped on a scrap of white paper and adhered to the card after cutting out. I cut a hat out of gesso-ed vintage book paper and decorated the hat with a red pompon. 

I finished the card off by stamping a birthday wish.

De poten van de vogel rechtstreeks op de kaart gestempeld. Het lijfje op wit papier gestempeld en uitgeknipt. Een feesthoedje geknipt uit een restje papier uit een oud boek. Het hoedje een laagje gesso gegeven en versierd met een rode pompon. Tenslotte nog een verjaardagswens gestempeld.

Today I'm sharing a card I made using the new Overlapping Blocks - Background Stamp by Darkroom Door.

Vandaag toon ik een kaart die ik maakte met de nieuwe Overlapping Blocks - Background Stamp van Darkroom Door.

I made a print with the background stamp using Versamark ink, sprinkled white embossing powder on top of the wet print and heat set with my heat gun.

De achtergrondstempel afgedrukt met Versamark inkt en over de natte print wit embossingpoeder gestrooid. Alles verhit met het warmtepistool. 

I colored the print with watercolor paint, so fun to do. 

 I didn't want to cover the beautiful background so I only added a small strip of paper with a birthday wish.

Daarna begon het leuke werk, alle hokjes ingekleurd met aquarelverf. Even getwijfeld of ik er nog een bloem of zo zou aan toevoegen maar ik wilde niet teveel van de achtergrond weer verbergen dus alleen nog een strookje met een verjaardagswens opgeplakt.

I made this card for Darkroom Door featuring the new Handwritten Ledgers stamp. 

This time I used white paint to do the stamping. Love how the white print turned out on the kraft paper. 

With a blending tool I sponged a thin layer of white paint to the edges of the card.

Hier werkte ik opnieuw met de nieuwe Handwritten Ledgers stempel van Darkroom Door. Deze keer drukte ik de stempel af met witte verf op kraft papier. Een heel leuk effect vind ik. Met een 'blending tool' bracht ik nog een dun laagje witte verf aan op de randen van de kaart.

The flower stamp I used is new to the Darkroom Door stamp collection as well and yet a favorite of mine!

I made 2 prints on red/white patterned paper, cut the flowers out, attached them to the card and drew stems with a black fineliner. I adhered a small button to each flower centre. 

De bloemenstempel is ook nieuw in het Darkroom Door assortiment en nu al een favoriet van me!

Ik drukte de bloem twee keer af op rood/wit gedessineerd papier. Uitgeknipt, opgeplakt en een steel getekend met een dunne zwarte pen. In het midden van elke bloem kleefde ik een knoopje. 

I wrapped a torn strip of white linen around the card. To finish the card off I made a print using one of the label stamps from the 'Lots of Labels' set and stamped a wish inside of the label. 

Een reepje wit linnen gescheurd en rond de kaart geknoopt.  Om de kaart af te werken een label uit de 'Lots of Labels' set afgedrukt en daar een wens in gestempeld.

I made a card with the beautiful Open Circles - Background Stamp by Darkroom Door as well.

Ik maakte ook nog een kaartje met de hele mooie Open Circles - Background Stamp van Darkroom Door.

I inked up the background stamp with Versamark ink, made a print on watercolor paper, sprinkled white embossingpowder on top of the wet print and heat set.

De achtergrondstempel beïnkt met Versamark inkt, een afdruk gemaakt op aquarelpapier, wit embossing poeder over de natte print gestrooid en alles verhit met de heat gun. 

I colored the circles with blue watercolor paint.

De cirkels ingekleurd met blauwe aquarelverf.

I stamped a flower from the Carved Flowers set twice on watercolor paper using watercolor paint. 

I used the matching flower from the Fine Flowers Vol 1 set to overstamp the prints with black ink. Applied the same technique on the leaves. I finished the card off by adding a birthday wish.

Een bloem uit de Carved Flowers set stempelde ik twee keer op aquarelpapier met aquarelverf. Met de bijpassende bloemenstempel uit de Fine Flowers Vol 1 set overstempelde ik de afdrukken met zwarte inkt.  Voor de blaadjes hetzelfde proces gevolgd. De kaart afgewerkt met een verjaardagswens.

Today I'm sharing a notebook I made using the new Open Circles - Background Stamp by Darkroom Door.

Vandaag toon ik een notaboekje dat ik maakte met de nieuwe Open Circles - Background Stamp van Darkroom Door.

I started by cutting a strip of watercolor paper (30 x 15,5 cm). I made a fold in the middle of the strip and 2 opposite folds on both sides at 1,5 cm distance from the middle. Those 3 folds together make a letter W. 

Ik begon met het snijden van een strook aquarelpapier van 30 op 15,5 cm. Een vouw gemaakt in het midden en aan beide kanten op 1,5 cm afstand nog eens een vouw gemaakt in tegengestelde richting zodat er een letter W ontstond.

I stamped the Open Circles Background Stamp to the front and the back of the book. 

De Open Circles-Background Stamp 2 keer afgedrukt. 

I colored each circle with watercolor paint. 

I highlighted a few of the circles with a white pen. 

De cirkels één voor één ingekleurd met aquarelverf. Een aantal van de cirkels geaccentueerd door er krabbels in te maken met een witte pen. 

I folded and attached a strip of pink scrapbook paper around the W fold at the spine to reinforce the spine and to further embellish the book.

Een strook roze scrapbook papier gevouwen en bevesigd aan de rug, deels ter versteviging maar ook om het boek verder te versieren. 

I folded 2 signatures out of colored copy paper and nested those signatures into the 2 folds/valleys at the spine. I made 3 holes into both folds at the spine and into both signatures and used a '3-hole pamphlet stitch' to attach the signatures to the cover.

Twee katernen gevouwen van gekleurd papier en deze katernen in de 2 vouwen gelegd ter hoogte van de rug van het boekje. Drie gaatjes gemaakt in de 2 vouwen en ook in de katernen en alles met een simpele '3-hole pamphlet stitch' vastgenaaid aan de kaft. 

The inside covers and spine were decorated with pink scrapbook paper as well. Of course I did that before I started attaching the signatures.

De binnenkant van de kaft en de rug binnenin werden ook bekleed met roze scrapbook papier. Dit deed ik uiteraard voor het vastnaaien van de katernen.

As a closure I wrapped pink elastic cord around the book and embellished the cord with ribbon, a pompon and a metal charm.

Als sluiting een stuk roze elastiek rond het boekje geknoopt. Het elastiek versierd met stukjes lint, een pompon en een metalen bedeltje.

Darkroom Door released a lot of new stamps recently. Within the next weeks I will share some projects I made with those new stamps. 

This one layer card features the new Handwritten Ledgers Background Stamp and the new Eclectic Stamp - Scribble Daisy.

Darkroom Door bracht recent een heleboel nieuwe stempels uit. In de komende weken ga ik een aantal projecten tonen die ik met deze stempels maakte. 

Voor deze 'éénlaags' kaart gebruikte ik de nieuwe Handwritten Ledgers Background Stamp en de mooie Eclectic Stamp - Scribble Daisy.

I started by stamping the flowers with Archival Ink 'Jet Black'. Next I colored the flowers and the background using watercolor paint. After masking off the flowers I overstamped the background with the Handwritten Ledgers Background Stamp using Distress Oxide Ink 'Mermaid Lagoon'. After carefully removing the masks my card was ready.

Ik begon met het stempelen van de bloemen met Archival Ink 'Jet Black'. De bloemen en de achtergrond ingekleurd met aquarelverf. Maskertjes op de bloemen gekleefd en daarna de achtergrond overstempeld met de Handwritten Ledgers achtergrondstempel. Daarvoor gebruikte ik Distress Oxide Ink 'Mermaid Lagoon'. Voorzichtig de maskertjes verwijderd en klaar was mijn kaart.

I made a set of cards using the cute bunnies from the Tim Holtz Thinlits 'Bunny Stitch' set.

I started by coloring watercolor paper with Distress Ink. I applied Distress Ink straight from the inkpads onto a craft sheet, sprayed water on top and put the paper into that puddle. After drying I randomly overstamped the colored backgrounds using Distress Oxide Ink.

Ik maakte een set kaartjes met de leuke konijnen uit de Tim Holtz Thinlits 'Bunny Stitch' set.

Om te beginnen aquarelpapier gekleurd met Distress Inkt. Distress Inkt op een craft sheet aangebracht, daar water over verneveld en het papier door de natte plas inkt gesleept. Na het drogen de achtergrond hier en daar bestempeld met Distress Oxide inkt.

At the bottom of each card I adhered tape and zigzag ribbon.

Onderaan elke kaart stroken tape en zigzag lint opgekleefd. 

I die cut the rabbits out of white and gray paper. For the carrots and cross-stitches I used leftover gel prints.

De konijnen uit wit en uit grijs papier geponst. Voor de kruisjes en de wortels gebruikte ik restjes van een gel print.
